Miss Carbon County’s Outstanding Teen’s first attendant Kaylie Basso recently set aside her free time to make over 200 orange ribbons in support of a victim from the recent school shooting in Parkland, FL.

14-year-old Jamie Guttenberg was one of the 17 killed in the recent shooting. Guttenberg was a dancer whose favorite color was orange.

According to a GoFundMe account created by a relative of the victim, Guttenberg was a beautiful, kind and intelligent girl who had her whole life ahead of her, but that was sadly cut short. The account also stated that an organization entitled “Orange Ribbons for Jaime” was created to address school safety issues. Donations from the account will go to the cause.

The Carbon County dancer and royalty member, also 14-years-old, decided to show her support by making orange ribbons for dancers in both Carbon and Emery counties to wear.

“I chose to do this because it breaks my heart knowing that so many young lives were taken tragically,” Basso said. “A small gesture like this might not do much, but it shows that we care as a dance community. It also shows love and respect, which goes along with my platform.”

Dance groups that are supporting and participating in the service project include Encore Dance Studio, Dance Technica, Carbon Dynamics, Emery Spardettes and more. The dancers will pin the orange ribbons to their dance costumes during performances such as the upcoming Soles to Souls event on Saturday and state basketball tournaments this weekend.

There have been many fake campaigns created for the victims, but this GoFundMe account is the only one authorized by the Guttenberg family. To donate, please click here.
